Harkins Builders expanding commercial work into Pennsylvania

Harkins Builders is aggressively expanding our outreach into the commercial marketplace within all of our geographic regions, including Pennsylvania.

As part of that effort, Harkins is pleased to announce the addition of Larry Getz to Media, PA office. We are happy to have the benefit of his 25 years of commercial experience in the Southeast Pennsylvania and New Jersey region to help us build new relationships with developers of commercial projects.

Harkins is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2015, and since the early 1970s our portfolio of projects has included many office buildings, garages, community centers, warehouses, medical facilities, retail centers, military buildings, and even a few hotels. This represents the full range of structural systems, including structural steel and structural concrete buildings.

In the 1990s, Harkins began providing design-build services for federal government projects. Our company was well-suited to this approach to construction, since we already had a highly developed preconstruction department that thoroughly and systematically vets projects before ground is broken for construction. The experience our people have gained building training facilities, dining halls, and maintenance facilities is invaluable when brought to bear on the requirements of private sector commercial construction.

Our recent work includes several high-profile commercial projects, including the Joint Armed Forces Reserve Center in New Castle, DE (pictured) and the Satellite Earth Terminal Station at Ft. Detrick, MD (where we are returning soon for Phase 2). We were just awarded another large Reserve Center in Havre de Grace, MD, and were recently shortlisted to work on various commercial projects for the government of Howard County, MD.

Our consistent approach utilizing our preconstruction expertise, including our Structured Plan Reviews, strict attention to A/E coordination, coupled with new technology like BIM will allow our staff to complete these projects with the same expertise that our clients in the residential markets expect.

Our preconstruction and construction management staffs are experienced with the materials, codes, methods, and subcontractors needed for commercial construction, as well as the special needs of projects that include complex control systems and alternative energy systems.

Harkins is proud of our ranking among the top general contractors in the Philadelphia region (Philadelphia Business Journal, 5/15). We are also proud of our reputation as a company that takes the long view in critical decisions, which is the reason why 75 percent of our work is with repeat clients. And now we are proud to be reminding developers in Pennsylvania and throughout the Mid-Atlantic that Harkins is Building Commercial.
